Guide to Animal Rights
We can say that animals and human beings have some similarities in the sense that they have consciousness and they are also very responsive. There are many pet owners in this world who would quickly tell you that animals are unique and they are precious in their own identity, and they should certainly be loved and nurtured. There are people who think that animals cannot feel pain or because their intelligence is lower than human beings that they should not be given the care and nourishment that most pet owners generously give to them.
Animals deserve life, and there are some groups that do not give these rights and privileges to them. Humans are a lot superior than animals and that is seen in the moral realm also, and there are advocates of this belief. Another group would tell you that the feelings, and experiences of animals are much lower than a human being’s and thus should not be given the same status as a human has. These beliefs came from a faulty sense of righteousness and entitlements. If people will just overcome their biases, then it all boils that to animals having their own rights in this world.
Animals should also be given the right to live in a clean and safe place. Humans have been known to wreak havoc on some sensitive ecosystems in the world like turning rainforests into flat plains and coral reefs into ocean deserts. Humans who destroy the natural ecosystem for their own gain are guilty of depriving animals a basic right to have a clean and safe home. We can closely link the animal rights movement to the green movement because of this.
There are animals or animal parts that are being used for products that is to be sold in the market and this is one display of human greed that is gaining popularity. Because of what they can get out of it, animals mortality is completely disregarded by many of these people. Some examples of this are poachers, shark finners, and other people who view animals solely as commodities. It is disturbing how the basic rights of animal life are discarded and replaced with a dollar sign. Since animals have a right to live free of suffering at the hands of humans, it is important that we consider viable alternatives to animal products.
Animal rights activists are very strong in what they believe in. Here are the things that animal rights advocates believe in.
Animals are neither machine nor objects but are conscious beings. Animals have interests of their own. Human beings should be responsible to respect interests of animals. Animals should not be exploited by human beings. Human beings should not treat animals as objects. Humans have no right to kill animals.
If one is to discuss animal rights in its entirety , then you can come up with volumes of the subject.
